YOGA ACTIVISM: A workshop and practice to inspire you to share your yoga and become a Spiritual Warrior for the good of all
What is service, and what does it mean to serve? So many of us want to contribute to the greater good, this is an honorable goal. Where do we start? And how to we serve in the most effective way? The first phase of becoming a true activist is to look at our personal wounds and motivations. When we come from a place of knowing ourselves deeply, we are able to give in a clear and effective way. The Buddha said, “Cease to do evil and then do good.” This is a call to look at our personal relationships (with ourselves, family, friends, our environment and Spirit) first, and let our activism be an extension of how we live.
This workshop is an embodied exploration of how we can extend the principles of yoga beyond ourselves and into our families and communities. Through meditation, asana, partner work, visualization, journaling and discussion we will explore the questions about and begin a process of becoming Yogic Activists in the most authentic sense.

AGNI FLOW PRACTICE
This vinyasa style intermediate practice is rooted in the science of Tantra, and sequenced to enliven and strengthen the core. Allowing you to activate Agni: the digestive fire that lies in the abdominal region. Agni is also known as the fire of spiritual transformation. Activating Agni allows us to digest unprocessed emotions and experiences that create blockages in the body-mind. The use of mantra and visualization further allows us to enliven this energy center allowing us to move toward
a place of freedom.

EVENTS WITH HALA KHOURI
POWER AND GRACE: Expressing the Divine Feminine with Hala Khouri and Suzanne Sterling
Let us come together as women in all stages of life to explore and share our expression of every aspect of the Divine Feminine. Femininity is power and grace simultaneously; it is strong and firm while soft and yielding. Reconnecting to our feminine nature is vital if we are to be empowered women of Spirit.
In today’s hurried, technological, patriarchal society, the presence of the Feminine is what can help bring the world back into balance and harmony. We all embody the Great Mother which is the natural world and its rhythms. As we are able to cultivate and nurture the feminine aspects of ourselves, finding and expressing our authentic and uniquely feminine voice, we facilitate the healing of the entire planet.
In this workshop/ forum we will share our own experiences of being women, explore the ways in which we distort , deny or fail to honor our femininity, and create ways to celebrate, nurture and express the Goddess in all of us. Through dialogue, pranayama, visualization, music, archetype and creative asana we will embody the Divine Feminine in all her aspects- gentle, sweet, and maternal as well as firey, sensual, and unapologetically strong.
At least six months of yoga experience is best.

JUNE 2007
EVENTS WITH HALA KHOURI
URBAN YOGI: Contemporary Teacher Training in Mind-Body Yoga with Hala Khouri and Julian Walker
Bringing together asana, energetics, anatomy and somatic psychology, Hala and Julian place modern yoga in a truly East meets West context. During this weeklong intensive we will explore yoga as both an ancient shamanic ritual practice and as a contemporary mind-body process. This engaging and multi-faceted workshop incorporates transformational flow, deep stretch, ecstatic dance, as well as group process and practical healing and teaching tools.
Yoga teachers find themselves in a unique role as contemporary spiritual guides. Julian and Hala use their experience creating and facilitating a support group for yoga teachers together to address common roadblocks and misconceptions about what it means to be a teacher today. Their post New Age philosophy challenges some current beliefs about spirituality and invites us to think critically about what spiritual and psychological growth means.
Anatomy, psychology, energy and consciousness all come together on the mat. How do we map out a landscape that includes these rich and meaningful elements in a grounded, pragmatic and authentic way?
These are the topics we will cover:
• The Healing Process of Yoga: practical tools and definitions
o The body-mind connection
o The triune brain: new doorways into transformation
o The physiology of trauma and trauma resolution
• Sacred Psychology: the teacher student relationship
o Understanding Transference and Counter-transference
o How to work with projection, power and boundaries
o Personal process as the foundation of effective teaching and healing
• Fine Tuning Asana: instruction and sequencing
o Asana as a multi-dimensional experience: physical, mental, energetic, emotional
o Sequencing with a purpose: Intention in Form
o Creating and tending to Sacred Space
o Anatomical assessment and incorporating bodywork
• Psyche and Spirit: What really works (interactive dialogue)
o Contemporary spirituality, critical thinking, real world energetics, grounded
transformation.
o The chakras, psychological development and the shadow
